Why this scholarship exists

Lauren Sorrentino, co-founder of The Archangel Centers, lost her brother Christopher Pesce to addiction. The Christopher's Bed Scholarship carries his name because the program exists for the people this disease leaves behind, the brothers and sisters, parents, partners, and children who watched someone they love disappear into it and could not stop the disappearance.

Christopher's story did not end the way his family wanted it to end. The scholarship is a way of keeping his name in the work, and of giving someone else's brother, sister, son, or daughter the month of treatment the family could not buy in time.

What the scholarship covers

Each month, one applicant receives thirty days of fully covered outpatient treatment at The Archangel Centers, 44 Apple Street, Tinton Falls, New Jersey. The award includes the full clinical day, Partial Care groups, individual therapy with an assigned primary therapist, family programming under Lauren's leadership, medication-assisted treatment where clinically indicated, and case management, at no cost to the recipient.

The scholarship covers the program, not the path back to it. Travel, housing, and out-of-program supports are the recipient's responsibility. Where families need help thinking through those pieces, the admissions team can walk through them.

Who it is for

The scholarship is for an adult who needs outpatient addiction treatment and for whom cost or an insurance gap is the barrier. The clinical team runs a brief assessment to make sure the outpatient level of care is appropriate for the applicant's clinical picture.

If outpatient is not the right starting point, the admissions team says so and coordinates placement at an accredited partner facility, then opens the door at Tinton Falls for the step-down back into our program when the time is right.

How it works

One recipient is selected each month. The process is short and confidential.

• Clinical and admissions review. The admissions team and the clinical team review each application together to confirm the program fit.
• Recipient selected. One person is chosen each month. The team reaches out personally.
• Treatment begins. Admissions opens the door at the Tinton Falls clinic and the recipient starts within the same week when possible.
